If there is a way to involve and highlight culture within the region, I rarely pass up on the opportunity. I contacted my friends from the Shehhi (Shuhooh for plural) Tribe in Ras Al Khaimah, where they welcomed us and provided a cultural display that is truly unique within the region.
The tribe is known for it’s unique language, dating back to pre-islamic Sabaic from Southern Arabia, though Emirati’s theorize it is a mix of Arabic, Farsi with Portuguese influence. The Shehhi practice of Al Ruwaah (Drums), Al Razeef (Sword Play) and most famously Al Nadbah (Communication/War Cry) are what wet them apart from the other tribes in Arabia.
Partnering with SonyMEA, we set out to push their new line of lenses to the limit. They announced the 24mm, 40mm and 50mm G lenses. However, I have an affinity for the 40mm and decided to use it to capture the assignment. I acted as both talent for their promotional video, and as a photographer to produce quality images with their new product.
I hope you enjoy the full collection of images, as much as I enjoyed interacting with them once more!
